For Donald Trump, the exchange of strikes between the United States and Iran does not compromise the ceasefire in place for a month. “They played with us today. We swept them away. They played. I call that a trifle,” declared the American president to journalists, stating that the truce is still in effect.
However, on Thursday, May 7, Tehran accused Washington of violating the ceasefire after American strikes on “Iranian military installations.” The United States, on the other hand, claim that three of their “missile-launching destroyers” were attacked by Iranian “missiles, drones, and small boats” in the Strait of Hormuz, a source of tension since the start of the war in the Middle East. “No American ships were hit,” specified the US military on X.
Trump urges Tehran to sign an agreement “quickly”
This resumption of hostilities comes at a time when the United States is still awaiting a response from Iran to their latest proposal to permanently end the conflict in the Gulf. In a message posted on his Truth Social platform, Donald Trump called on Tehran to sign an agreement “quickly,” under the threat of being struck “much more violently in the future.”
“Iran is not a normal country. This country is ruled by madmen and, if they had the opportunity, they would not hesitate for a second to use a nuclear weapon. But they will never have that opportunity; just as we neutralized them once again today, we will strike them much more harshly, and much more violently, in the future, if they do not sign their agreement, and quickly!” the 79-year-old Republican also wrote.
