This year 2026, the Met Gala, a real fashion super bowl, took on the air of a masked ball. The celebrities delivered a very personal interpretation of the theme “Fashion is Art”, by totally or partially covering their face. Opaque protective visor, a metal facade made of kitchen cutlery or even a fencing mask with a disturbing mirror effect… the female stars of the red carpet have sealed what is their business. And it’s not just an aesthetic eccentricity.

The madness of faceless stars

The Met Gala, social event that brings together all the celebrities in a burst of creativity, saw sculptural silhouettes parade by, worthy of a museum display. Each outfit defended an artistic vision and found echoes in historical works. Converted into a living tableau or a human sculpture for the occasion… many stars have chosen to cover their faces and conceal their emotions by barricading their features under tailor-made pieces.

Some have done so “more moderate” way than others. Thus Sarah Paulson walked the red carpet of the Met Gala 2026 with a dollar bill stuck to her eyes while Rachel Zegler, the actress of “Snow White” imitated Lady Jane Gray by wearing a blindfold immaculate on the eyes. The most subversive ones took this carnivalesque aesthetic “to the extreme” while maintaining a semblance of anonymity. Gwendoline Christie disturbed the photographers’ lens with her wolf transfer, a hyper-realistic mask in her likeness. The unpredictable Katy Perry once again demonstrated her talent for staging and best embodied this undercover style. Armed with a modular fencing mask, she created the surprise and fueled the suspense until the last minute.
