Franck Chadeau, the president of the Vendée Federation of Outdoor Hotels (FVHPA) does not hide it: “The state of mind of camping professionals is a reflection of the weather, they are rather confident. At present, the filling rate for the bridges and the start of the season is pretty nice. »
A favorable situation which concerns both the establishments on the Vendée coast and those located inland and which is undoubtedly not unrelated to the international context which slows down long-distance travel, whether in France or abroad.

A great start to the season

And it was the spring holidays that were the first to benefit from it.  The attendance is on the riseespecially for the fortnight which concerned our area. There was more local customers linked to the rise in fuel prices. We were also helped by favorable weather,” notes Franck Chadeau.

And weather factor which remains the essential cursor for departures on vacation and weekends:  People are in the starting blocks as soon as the weather is nice. In May, we will ramp up. There was the big weekend of 1is May, there will be that of May 8 and the apotheosis with the Ascension which can be equivalent to August 15 if the weather is good. »

A wait-and-see attitude for this summer

Regarding the increase in local customers, Franck Chadeau is waiting to see if it will persist in the weeks and months to come…: “There is still an uncertainty because the international context is anxious. People say “they make us leave, that we take advantage” but there is however a certain wait-and-see attitude for reservations this summer. »

The global context would therefore still represent a certain obstacle. Franck Chadeau gives as proof a “ small delay in reservations for the month of August ».

According to him, this clearly demonstrates “the anxiety that hangs over the morale of the French.” Anyway, “ they will go abroad much less cet eté, it is as if acté ».

More quid des étrangers who, for their part, represent a significant portion of the clientele of Vendée campsites (around 18%)? Will they, too, stay at home?  For the moment, the trend is rather favorable, observes the president of the FVHPA. They plan to come anyway. » At the head, the Dutch followed by the Belgians, the Germans and the English.

Leisure above all

In any case, the increasingly significant trend of last minute booking will increase. “As purchasing power is declining, the French save money all year round to go on vacation for a few days. So, they want to be sure to have good weatherwhich favors the last minute. »

This complicated economic period also redistributes the priority cards of vacationers.  The leisure is sacred. Living adventures and experiences is important. Tourists have a tight budget, but they still want to leave even if it means leaving one day less, not going to restaurants and making fewer purchases. Accommodation and activities are clearly privileged. »
