The Brazilian club Santos announced on Monday that they have opened an internal investigation into an altercation between Neymar and the son of former striker Robinho during a training session. According to local press, Neymar did not appreciate being dribbled by 18-year-old Robinho Junior during Sunday’s training session. “Just after the incident, an internal investigation was opened,” the Brazilian club announced in a statement that did not detail the nature of the incident.

According to several Brazilian media outlets, Robinho Junior, the son of former Real Madrid and Manchester City player, accuses Neymar of insulting and slapping him during the altercation that followed. Globo Esporte reports that Robinho Junior’s lawyers informed the club that they were considering terminating the contract of the young striker if the club did not take any action.

World Cup Hope

Despite his recurring physical problems, 34-year-old Neymar still hopes to be called up by coach Carlos Ancelotti for the World Cup (June 11 – July 19). The all-time leading scorer for the Seleção (79 goals, two more than Pelé), he has not played for the national team since October 2023. The final squad for the World Cup will be revealed on May 18.

Former teammate of Neymar at Santos, 42-year-old Robinho is currently in prison in Brazil after being convicted in Italy of a prison sentence for gang rape.
