Beyoncé and Rihanna make a masterful appearance at the Met Gala

Oh, what do you mean you weren’t at the Met Gala? What a pity! Don’t panic, we bring you the latest gossip on the most prestigious charity event of the year – and the one which has recently been the most criticized. On the menu, to put it in your mouth: two superstars who didn’t do things by halves.

Unless you live in a cave and are cut off from all social networks, you will have noticed that stars stuffed with fabrics, more or less transparent, more or less tasteful, have invaded your “For You”.

And it’s for a grand occasion; it was in fact this Monday, May 4 that the Met Gala was held, which is the annual charity gala of the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Every year, this high mass which brings together the beautiful people of Hollywood celebrates the opening of the annual Costume Institute exhibition.

Now, this year, there were at least two things that were far from trivial.

Easy and controversial theme

To begin with, the theme was crystal clear, which is worth noting. Celebrities were finally able to wear creations from designers who scrupulously respected the dress code. Titled «Fashion Is Art»the latter was in perfect harmony with the exhibition dedicated to “Costume Art”.

Second, the Met was marked by a lot of controversy. As we explained to you below, the fact that Jeff Bezos and his wife, Lauren Sánchez, were the main financiers of the event, and that they put their hands in their pockets to the tune of some 10 million dollars if we are to believe Page Sixshocked more than one.

What particularly angered, and which even led to real boycott campaigns, was the link of the Amazon boss with ICE, the American immigration police. As recalled Radio France“the company provides data storage and analysis infrastructure to the American agency ICE”. The couple’s arrival with great fanfare, and their control over the event, were therefore viewed negatively by many observers, but also by certain artists.

The protests have also sometimes pointed to working conditions within Bezos’ company. Activist groups, such as “Everyone Hates Elon,” have organized notable actions, including placing hundreds of bottles of fake urine inside the Metropolitan Museum.

This staging aimed to denounce the testimonies of employees claiming not to have enough time to go to the toilet.

To make matters worse, the price of entry to the gala rose to $100,000, which was seen as an excess of opulence by many Internet users.

Queen Bee is back

Not very happy all that. But despite the controversies, there were still some strong moments during this bling bling evening, which had the good fortune to bring a little balm to the hearts of Internet users.

To begin with, the superstar Beyoncé made his comeback on the Met red carpet, after ten years of absence.

It must be said that the singer was the co-president of this edition, and that she had to make a masterful comeback. She therefore counted on the skill of Olivier Rousteing to shine among the approximately 450 illustrious guests, and appeared in a skeleton dress entirely encrusted with crystals, enhanced with an imposing feather cape. On her head was a sparkling headdress and jewelry by Chopard. Dramatic? Absolutely, since the train required the help of six people for its transport. Artistic? We’ll let you be the judge.

By choosing to put an outfit signed Olivier Rousteing in the spotlight, the interpreter of Halo wanted to honor the links that have long united him with the French creator.

But that’s not all! Fans of the singer were also able to see her entire clan, proudly posing alongside her. Blue Ivy, 14, made her big debut at the charity event in a puffy, cream-colored white outfit. These ladies were escorted by rapper Jay-Z. Enough to turn the Met into a real family affair!

Queen Bee also expressed all her emotion during an interview for Voguestating: “It’s unreal because my daughter is here. It’s incredible to be able to share this with her.”

Rihanna et A$AP Rocky

Since we’re talking about family affairs, another iconic couple has emerged, making all heads turn. It is of course the singer Rihanna and A$AP Rocky, whose looks were highly anticipated.

The boss of Fenty Beauty appeared much softer than in 2015, where she showed up in a huge canary yellow dress by Guo Pei, which earned her endless memes. Well, and no one has forgotten her papal silhouette signed Maison Margiela by John Galliano, for the exhibition “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination”, in 2018.

In 2025, it was her pregnant belly that she put in the spotlight, in a tailor-made wool suit designed by Marc Jacobs.

This year, no fuss; Rihanna arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art wearing a shimmering dress by Margiela Couture by Glenn Martens, all in all quite simple. Riri still looked a bit like a pretty living room lamp in this look, but it still needed to light up the evening.

What made the little difference? Certainly the monumental Art Deco hairstyle inspired by Flemish medieval architecture, if we are to believe Gala. At his side, A$AP Rocky was relatively discreet but looked surgically elegant in a Chanel look designed by Matthieu Blazy, mixing structured pink coat, satin details and camellia couture.

Without a doubt, this year, the Met is more than ever a family affair.
