The Pays de Bray international chess festival celebrates its 10th anniversary in Gournay-en-Bray

To celebrate the 10 ans of theOpen d’échecsthe Echiquier du Pays de Bray club based in Gournay-en-Bray (Seine-Maritime) has put together a special program to promote the game of chess within the region and beyond. Many French and foreign players are expected. Discover the program.

A birthday to raise awareness of chess

From Thursday May 7 to Sunday May 17, 2026, chess, a cerebral sport par excellence, will shine in the city. An anniversary which is not intended to be open to all in order to better promote this game which, according to figures from the French Chess Federation (FFE), has more than 50,000 licensees.

 After the free event offered at the media library to begin the festivities, the international master standard tournament chess will begin on Sunday May 10 and end on May 17. It will bring together10 players very high level. A very popular tournament, because few are organized in the region.

We have a twinning with the Grunbach club, located in Germany. 11 German players come to participate in our open.

May 13, on the Place Nationale

On Wednesday, May 13, from 2 p.m., on Place Nationale, the public will be able to attend or play a simultaneous game against international master Hugo Tirard. A game that promises to be spectacular.

May 15, at the Écrans cinema

There will also be in this beautiful week of chess a ciné-débat on Friday May 15 with the screening of the film Magnus at the Les Écrans cinema. The opportunity to better understand the history and career of the best chess player in the world.

Games broadcast live

In parallel, a Blitz tournament will take place on May 14 at 8:30 p.m. at the Atelier as well as the 7th open des -1700.

Please note that during this festival the chess games will be broadcast live on the internet and broadcast at the Gournay media library.

During the festival period a exhibition of paintings students of Claire Frenois and Patricia Neveu around chess will be visible at the Atelier de Gournay cultural center.

Closing this 10^e Bray country chess festival, a couscous evening is planned for Saturday May 16 at the Gournay village hall from 7:30 p.m.
