The American session opened on Monday amid speculation about escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz. American index futures are reacting with moderate declines, limiting losses to a maximum of 0.5%.
More significant fluctuations are observed in bond and oil markets. Bond yields are up by over 1% in the medium-term segment (1 to 5 years), oil is temporarily up by 3%, and Brent crude has crossed $111 per barrel.
The Iranian news agency FARS reported striking an unidentified American warship with two missiles as the ship allegedly attempted to pass through the strait. In response, an anonymous U.S. administration official told Axios that no such attack had occurred.
All of this is part of the “Project Freedom”, announced on Sunday by D. Trump – a military operation aimed at, in a manner that has not yet been clearly defined, creating the necessary conditions for the military escort of commercial ships through the strait.
