Kiev has been the target of numerous drone attacks from Russia. Moscow, on its side, claimed on Sunday to have shot down 334 Ukrainian drones overnight.

A Russian drone strike killed a man in the city of Kherson, in southern Ukraine, local authorities reported on Sunday, May 3. The attack targeted a “company vehicle” at 5:40 local time (4:40 in Paris), said Kherson military administration chief Iaroslav Chanko on Telegram. “An unidentified man suffered fatal injuries,” he added, specifying that four people were hospitalized.

Russian attacks in the region of Odessa, which hosts important port infrastructure, killed two people, including a truck driver, as reported by regional governor Oleg Kiper. “Enemy drones hit three residential buildings and damaged two more. Port facilities and equipment were also damaged,” he stated.

According to an AFP analysis of data released by the Ukrainian air forces, the Russian army targeted Ukraine with a record number of long-range drone strikes (6,583) in April. In response to these daily and now more frequent daytime bombings, Kiev strikes targets in Russia, claiming to aim at military sites, as well as energy facilities, to reduce Moscow’s ability to finance its war effort.

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Sunday morning that they had shot down 334 Ukrainian drones overnight, an exceptionally high number. Anti-aircraft defenses intercepted drones in about fifteen regions, some far from the frontlines, including near Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as in the annexed Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea. An attack killed a 77-year-old man in the Moscow region, according to the regional governor.
