The announcement took many fans of the Apple TV+ phenomenon series by surprise. More than two years after the end of season 3, which was supposed to be the last, Ted Lasso is returning to our screens this summer. The fourth season will be broadcast starting from August 5th, at a rate of one episode per week until October 7th. But this time, the most optimistic coach on the small screen is changing his playing field.

Initially conceived as a story in three acts, the comedy led by Jason Sudeikis was supposed to end in 2023. But given its public and critical success (with no less than 13 Emmy Awards and several Golden Globes), the creators have chosen to relaunch the series, even if it means completely reworking their roadmap.

In these new episodes, Ted makes his grand return to Richmond, but he does not take over the men’s team. He is now in charge of a women’s club in the second division, a mission presented as “the greatest challenge of his career”. This change of direction allows the series to explore another aspect of football, one that is still rarely seen on the screen.

The first trailer, which you can watch below, unveiled on Monday, April 28th, gives a glimpse of this new phase. Ted remains true to himself, navigating uncomfortable situations and quirky humor, while trying to adapt to this new environment. Around him, familiar fan favorites are still present: Hannah Waddingham as Rebecca, Juno Temple as Keeley, and Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent. Season 4 also introduces new characters, including one played by Tanya Reynolds (Sex Education), who also seems to take on a coaching role.

A question remains unanswered: how does this return to Richmond fit into the continuity of the previous season, where we saw Ted return to the United States? A few more months of patience.
