Excess Brand Showcases Sustainable Catamaran at Multihull Show 2026
Excess, a brand under the Beneteau Group, made a mark at the 2026 multihull show by announcing the development of an Excess 11 catamaran incorporating composite materials with a lower environmental impact. This model is characterized by the use of recyclable Elium resin, combined with a “low carbon” resin and a 45% content of recycled glass fibers. This technical combination marks a first in the series catamaran segment.

With this initiative, Excess continues its work in industrial innovation applied to boating. The aim is to introduce solutions compatible with production requirements while addressing sustainability issues related to materials. The integration of recycled fibers and specific resins is part of a strategy to limit the environmental footprint without major modifications to performance standards expected in this type of unit.
The development of Elium resin is the result of several years of research conducted in collaboration with various industrial and technological partners. Initially used in demanding applications, such as offshore racing, this resin has been adapted to mass production constraints specific to the boating industry.
Beyond its mechanical properties, this material excels in managing the lifecycle of composites. It facilitates recycling of production waste and the deconstruction of end-of-life parts. Components can be separated to recover fibers and the matrix.
This process relies on treatment technologies like pyrolysis to valorize composite materials and reintroduce them into new industrial cycles. This approach aligns with a circular economy logic involving multiple value chain actors, from material production to recycling.
