Several hundred people were attending this annual event at a large hotel in Washington.
Suspect “apprehended”
Donald Trump praised the work of security services on Saturday and said a suspect had been “apprehended,” after being evacuated from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner where shots were heard.
“What an evening in Washington. The Secret Service and law enforcement did a fantastic job. They acted quickly and courageously. The shooter was apprehended and I advised that +the show must go on+, but we are fully deferring to the decision of law enforcement. They will make a decision shortly,” he wrote on his Truth Social platform.
