President Donald Trump was hurried out of the White House correspondents’ dinner on Saturday night after hearing several loud bangs and witnessing Secret Service officers with guns drawn running through the aisles to reach him.

As reported by the White House press pool, a member of the Secret Service yelled, “Shots fired,” but there was no indication that the president was injured.

The chaos erupted about five minutes into the dinner when a disturbance was heard at the back of the ballroom. Security personnel rushed towards the stage where the president was seated, causing gasps from the attendees who then took cover under their seats.

Security officials brandishing weapons appeared on the platform as President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were swiftly escorted out of the venue.
