Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Saturday a reinforcement of cooperation between his country and Azerbaijan in terms of security and energy. This is the first visit to Azerbaijan since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

“We signed six documents today,” said the Ukrainian president after a meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Ilham Aliyev. “These cover various areas. Today, the main one is security,” he added.

The Ukrainian president thanked his host for the energy assistance provided during the winter, when Ukraine was plunged into darkness and cold due to Russian strikes against its energy facilities. “We are discussing the continuation of these initiatives,” he said.
