Event of the day

Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Saturday an enhancement of cooperation between his country and Azerbaijan in terms of security and energy. This visit is the first to Azerbaijan since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

“We signed six documents today,” said the Ukrainian president after meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Ilham Aliev. “These cover various areas. Today, the main focus is on security,” he added.

The Ukrainian president thanked his host for the energy aid provided during the winter when Ukraine was left in darkness and cold due to Russian strikes on its energy facilities. “We were discussing the continuation of these initiatives,” he indicated.

Statement

“We will have to live alone, Europe alone. It is very difficult for Germans and British to imagine a Western world without the United States.”

Recognizing the inevitable distance from the United States regardless of the American president, François Hollande on Saturday advocated for the rapid construction of a tighter European defense centered around a few willing countries.

Figure of the day

6. This is the number of people killed in Russian strikes in Dnipro, in the eastern part of Ukraine, as announced by authorities on Saturday. This led Volodymyr Zelensky to call for new sanctions against Moscow. 47 other individuals, including two children, were injured.

Trend

Russia is the primary suspect in phishing attacks on Signal, according to Berlin. “The federal government assumes that the phishing campaign targeting the messaging service Signal was likely orchestrated from Russia,” AFP learned from German government circles. Several German politicians, as well as diplomats, military personnel, and journalists, have had their communications hacked since February.

According to the same source, the data breach is now under control.
