Tottenham Hotspur, facing the threat of relegation, suffered blows as Dominic Solanke got injured in the first half and Xavi Simons had to be carried off on a stretcher in the second half. Their string of bad luck with player injuries continues.
MORE – Spurs win late on at Wolves
Manager Roberto De Zerbi was left stunned when Solanke pulled up with a potential hamstring injury in the first half. Richarlison came on as his replacement. Things worsened for Spurs when Xavi Simons, who had impressed the previous week with a goal and assist against Brighton, appeared to hyperextend his knee while reaching for the ball in the second half. Despite trying to shake it off initially, Simons aggravated the injury and had to be stretchered off the field.
This development is concerning not only for Spurs’ battle against relegation, but also because Solanke was a strong contender for England’s World Cup squad as Harry Kane’s backup, and Simons was expected to play a key role for the Netherlands this summer.
Xavi Simons, Dominic Solanke injury update, latest news
Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi provided the latest injury update following the game at Wolves.
“I don’t have all the details yet. I have spoken with the doctor but we will have to assess the players on Monday and Tuesday,” De Zerbi stated.
“I prefer not to dwell on the injured players because they are both crucial to us,” De Zerbi commented when asked about the potential impact of their absence. “I want to stay positive and hope they will be available for the match at Villa Park.”
