The rise of Toulouse FC Women marks a long-awaited return to the elite after thirteen years. Already champions, the Violets aim to finish strong despite two injuries ahead of a decisive away match in Rodez tomorrow afternoon at 3 pm.
Since April 5th, when they won at home against Thonon Evian (2-0), the Toulouse team has secured their promotion (13 years after their last appearance in the elite) and the Second League champions title. However, Antoine Gerards squad appears hungry for more success.
“We could say that the few nights after the victory against Thonon were a bit short for the players, but also for the staff (laughs). They then had a nine-day break. We resumed last week and I was pleasantly surprised by their dedication, even in the little games we play in training. A drop in performance would have been understandable with this ticket to the First League. In any case, it’s a good thing to see the girls still so motivated for the end of the championship,” explained the coach, whose team is twelve points ahead of Saint-Malo (2nd) and thirteen ahead of Auxerre (3rd).
“In our schedule, the Violets have only four more games to play. A tempting schedule for the coach: “Here, we travel to Rodez, who are fighting for survival, with a great stadium and a beautiful pitch. Then we will face three teams competing for promotion. So, on paper, it’s very interesting. And, above all, we don’t want to ruin the end of the season by not giving our all in matches. It would be disrespectful to the other teams.”
For their reunion with Ruthenoises tomorrow afternoon, the Toulouse team surely remembers their victory in the first match in late December, with a score of 5-1. Two absences in the Violets’ squad: Ilana Yacob, with an ankle injury, and Gaëlle Grillon, one of the goalkeepers, who suffered a dislocated finger yesterday.
