The first post-election City Council meeting was held in the auditorium of the Hôtel de Lassus, in front of a large audience. Mayor Jérôme Baron opened the session by greeting everyone present.
This Council meeting will focus on getting the city council running smoothly, appointing municipal councilors to municipal committees and external organizations. The meetings at the Auditorium are now established. It’s worth noting that all decisions were unanimously approved, except for the budgetary executions of 2025. The three councilors from the opposition group led by Jacques Gallet (in 2025) abstained from voting.
Throughout the discussions, Jérôme Baron expressed concern about unexpected or contentious issues arising. At the mayor’s request, Charlotte Saulneron is renewed in her role as General Director of Services for at least 3 years.
Controlled expenses: The reduction in allowances for elected officials is confirmed (4% less for the mayor and 2.5% less for deputy mayors), as well as one fewer deputy mayor. There is also a reduction in local taxes (property tax on built and unbuilt properties, and second home residence tax) by 2.5%, equivalent to 34 euros per taxpayer.
The mayor discussed the city’s debt situation and plans to conduct an audit, stating, “we are at risk of being placed under administration. We are facing difficult times but we will overcome.” In other pressing matters, the announced closure of a kindergarten class has raised concerns among the Council and teachers.
