The Pentagon stated, “We will continue to conduct global maritime control operations to disrupt illicit networks and intercept ships providing material support to Iran.” The US Department of Defense announced Thursday that it had boarded and inspected a sanctioned ship carrying Iranian oil in the Indian Ocean, the second operation of its kind in that area this week.
“During the night, US forces carried out a maritime interception and inspection with the right to board the stateless vessel sanctioned M/T Majestic X, which was carrying oil from Iran in the Indian Ocean within the Indo-Pacific Command’s area of responsibility,” the US military command for the Indo-Pacific region stated.
“We will continue to conduct global maritime control operations to disrupt illicit networks and intercept ships providing material support to Iran,” added the Pentagon. The military had announced on Tuesday that it had intercepted another sanctioned ship linked to Iran, the M/T Tifani, which was also in the Indian Ocean.
