A wildfire response is currently underway in San Miguel County, New Mexico, leading to evacuations along New Mexico Highway 266. The Tusas Fire is burning near mile marker 2.5 on the highway, resulting in evacuations for those between mile marker 3 and 6. People on Highway 266 between mile marker 4 and Highway 94, as well as on Highway 94 between Sapello and County Road A4A, are on SET status. Those on County Road A4A are on READY status. The fire started at around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, and is fueled by timber, piñon-juniper, and grass. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The fire is located west of Sapello in San Miguel County at mile marker 2.5 on NM Highway 266. The fire is threatening private property, including multiple homes in SET status. Evacuation is taking place at the First United Methodist Church located at 715 National Avenue.
