Eric Danon: Donald Trumps erratic communication does not mean the United States has no strategy in Iran

In an interview on Tuesday, the American president announced the indefinite extension of the ceasefire with Iran while maintaining the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. According to the former French ambassador to Israel, “a slow mastery of global energy flows to block China” represents “strategic coherence” masked by his “hypernarcissism.”

Donald Trump announced on Tuesday the indefinite extension of the ceasefire with Iran to give Tehran more time to join negotiations under Pakistan’s auspices. However, the US president clarified that he would maintain the naval blockade of Iranian ports established last week.

According to Éric Danon, former French ambassador to Israel from August 2019 to July 2023, Donald Trump follows a “strategy linked to a few basic objectives, but it is not very clear due to his communication.”
