Lens players qualified for the Coupe de France final by defeating Toulouse on Tuesday night at Bollaert Stadium. The team has reached the final of the competition for the first time in 28 years. Let’s look back on this achievement.
The field of Bollaert Stadium in Lens (Pas-de-Calais), was filled with joyful Lens supporters on Tuesday, April 21. Twenty-eight years later, the Sang et Or are back in the Coupe de France final. An intense joy following a brilliant victory against Toulouse. From the ninth minute, Florian Thauvin opened the scoring with a penalty. Before the second goal, thanks to a strike from Allan Sanmaximan, 2-0 in less than 20 minutes, the supporters were confident.
However, Toulouse managed to reduce the score due to a mistake in the Lens defense. But the Sang et Or showed character. They responded with a third goal scored by Matthieu Udol. The Bollaert Stadium erupted in celebration. In the second half, Adrien Thomasson sealed the score at 4-1. Lens will play in the Coupe de France final on May 22.
“We are really happy to reach the final and we have been waiting for this for so long. And there will definitely be a trophy, I promise you,” exclaimed one supporter. This would be a first, as Lens lost the first three Coupe de France finals in its history. The fourth, against Strasbourg or Nice, could be the charm.
