Ligue 1: PSG regains victory against Nantes and reclaims four

Paris got back on track. Three days after their defeat against Lyon at the Parc des Princes, Parisians found victory against Nantes (3-0) on Wednesday, April 22, in the postponed match of the 26th day of Ligue 1 originally scheduled in March. In front of their fans, Luis Enrique’s men showcased their superiority and success against impressive but not well-equipped Canaries.

With an unchanged attacking line, unlike the rest of the lineup (Lucas Beraldo in defense and Dro Fernandez in midfield), it was Khvicha Kvaratskhelia who shone to guide PSG. The Georgian forward, prominent in European competitions in recent weeks, scored a brace, his 17th and 18th goals of the season.

He first opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a penalty after a handball by Ali Yousuf in the box. This balanced out the team’s penalty statistics, as Paris had missed 6 out of 12 penalties this season, the last one by Gonçalo Ramos against OL. After Désiré Doué’s sublime goal (37th), “Kvara” also scored the third goal of the night, originating and finishing the action after a series of dribbles in the box (50th).

Not coming as sacrificial victims, Nantes sometimes took control of the game and posed problems in the Parisian box (10 shots), led by their playmaker Matthis Abline with a standout performance. In the first half, they even thought they disrupted Parisian plans by finding an equalizer from Louis Leroux, ultimately disallowed for offside (22nd). However, they couldn’t match the speed and efficiency of the capital club.

With this victory, their 22nd of the season, Parisians regain a bit of a lead at the top of the table, four units ahead of their runner-up Lens. They also regain confidence, a week before the away match against Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-final, amidst a season-ending marathon of games every three days. Defeated, Nantes, who hasn’t won in the league for two months, remains 17th and the first team to be relegated, five points behind Auxerre, in the playoff spot.
