Wednesday, May 6th, as part of a series of meetings called “Boussole(s)”, “Télérama” invites psychiatrist Camille Charvet and political scientist Arnaud Miranda to question the political project of the non-shareholder international.

A schism is shaking our society: five centuries after the Renaissance, two hundred and fifty years after the Enlightenment, all certainties – scientific, political, cultural, moral – are shaken. How can we not lose our way, how to find our sense of direction when everything is moving under our feet?

With “Boussole(s),” a series of multidisciplinary and undisciplined encounters, “Télérama” invites the public to change their perspective. AI, climate, sexuality, democracy, biodiversity, law, school… On each subject, social sciences and hard sciences will dialogue on stage, before giving way to an artist’s performance. Because culture and ideas, when they combine their creativity and efforts, form an irresistible alliance against ignorance, aggression, and depression.

Radical right-wing counterculture

Thus, a neo-shareholder political project with almost unlimited means is emerging before our eyes – especially on social networks. Its goal? To destroy democracy, to govern the state as a business, to put an end to humanism… This radical right-wing counterculture now has its herald – Donald Trump – and its big backers, several Silicon Valley billionaires. “Crazy” as they are sometimes described? If only. In reality, as each dizzying day’s news shows, most of what is happening to us is the result of a political project with multiple ramifications but clear intentions: to change the world profoundly; to put humanity on new tracks, breaking away from everything that underpinned humanism. Can we still fight against these “dark Enlightenment”? How can we best defend what we hold dear – even if it means giving it new forms? And what do cognitive sciences and psychiatry teach us about how chaos engineers try to get us on board with their delirium?

On May 6th, we will try to answer these questions at a first “Boussole(s)” meeting at the Maison des Métallos: “F*uck you, Elon!” A journey to the heart of these “dark Enlightenments” – and to the discovery of some paths to get out of them – with psychiatrist Camille Charvet and political scientist Arnaud Miranda.
