Last week, exciting news revealed that Guardsman Pass would open on Tuesday, sparking anticipation among outdoor enthusiasts in Utah. Although Guardsman Pass itself remains closed due to snow, S.R. 224 is accessible from Old Town over Empire Pass to Pine Canyon Road and down to Midway. As the snow melts, more mountain roads are expected to open in April and May, ushering in the summer season.

Even though reaching Guardsman Pass may be temporarily thwarted by lingering snow, other places like Empire Pass and Pine Canyon Road to Midway are ready for exploration. Cascade Springs offers a beautiful April adventure, while Mirror Lake Highway provides accessible mountain escapes with lower hiking trails open. Wolf Creek Pass and Monte Cristo Highway also offer scenic drives for those eager to explore the outdoors.

As Utah experiences the shift from winter to spring, outdoor enthusiasts are gearing up for the summer season with anticipation for more roads to open and adventures to unfold. For more updates on the opening of seasonal mountain roads, visit udottraffic.utah.gov/seasonalroads.
