On Sunday, April 26, Monday, April 27, and Tuesday, April 28, the Marcel-Oms cinema club returns with its annual “Art and Canvas” festival, dedicated to artistic creation.
In perfect harmony with the artistic events that weave through the alleys of the Painters’ City, movie enthusiasts are offering their big screen to painting aficionados. Accompanied by tour guides, writers, cinema historians, and publishers, enthusiasts can immerse themselves each day in both documentaries and fiction, unlocking the doors to their imagination and cultural reflections.
On Sunday, April 26 at 5:30 pm, the festival kicks off with the documentary “Aragon, the Matisse novel,” directed by Richard Dindo, which takes us back to 1941 following Louis Aragon and Elsa Triolet at Henri Matisse’s place in Cimiez, above Nice, in the free zone, with narration by Jacques Weber.
After a pre-dinner drink, the evening continues at 8 pm with the fiction film “Gauguin, Voyage to Tahiti” by Édouard Deluc. The audience will be accompanied by Juliette Klein during these two screenings.
On Monday, April 27 at 5 pm, the documentary “The Velázquez Enigma,” narrated by Vincent Lindon, will be screened. Then at 8 pm, Andrei Konchalovsky takes the audience into the mysteries of the life and soul of Michelangelo, guided by the writer Mika Biermann.
On Tuesday, April 28 at 5 pm, the documentary “Gustave Caillebotte or the Adventures of the Gaze” will be shown, followed by the film “Renoir” at 6:45 pm. Dominique Auzel, an educator, publisher, cinema historian, and writer, will be present with the audience.
At 8:30 pm, there will be a book signing session with Dominique Auzel, in the presence of the Oxymore bookstore.
The “Art and Canvas” festival will take place from April 26 to 28 at the Mondial cinema. Ticket prices: museum members and friends: €5; visitors: €8 for the first screening (including a €1 membership fee), €7 for subsequent screenings.
