Important Points:

  • The conflict in the Middle East has entered its 52nd day.
  • The ceasefire between the United States and Iran is set to end Tuesday night to Wednesday.
  • New negotiations could take place.

With a blockade still ongoing and a ceasefire about to end, after 52 days of conflict, the United States and Iran have not yet found common ground as the truce is set to end Tuesday night to Wednesday. While new negotiations are being considered, Tehran states it has not yet made a decision on their potential participation in the upcoming peace talks with Washington, scheduled in Islamabad.

“The Iranian regime has many pressure points. The main one is to push the global economy into the abyss and into a deep abyss,” said Richard Werly, correspondent for France-Europe at the Swiss newspaper Blick, on LCI. “If the Iranians do not go to Pakistan, the economic expectations will be completely different. However, the global economy is Donald Trump’s Achilles’ heel. The one who stands to lose the most in a major global economic upheaval that Iran can provoke is him,” the journalist continued.

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also questioned the seriousness of the United States in their commitment to diplomatic efforts, citing “violations” of the current ceasefire. One issue includes the US Navy seizing an Iranian cargo ship. “The ship tried to break through our maritime blockade, and it didn’t go well for them,” wrote Donald Trump on his Truth Social platform, while the Iranian military spokesperson called this seizure an “act of armed piracy.”
