The Spanish tennis and football stars Carlos Alcaraz and Lamine Yamal, along with Paris Saint-Germain, European champions for the first time in 2025, were rewarded on Monday during the annual Laureus Sports Awards ceremony in Madrid. Alcaraz, World No. 2 and winner of two Grand Slams last year, was named Sportsman of the Year at this ceremony held for the third consecutive time in Madrid. Currently injured in his right wrist, he stated that he did not want to “force” his return to the courts, even if it means being ready to defend his title at Roland-Garros in a month.
On the women’s side, Belarusian World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka received the Sportswoman of the Year award, while British driver Lando Norris, Formula 1 world champion for the first time in 2025, was named Global Revelation of the Year, surpassing PSG’s Golden Boy Désiré Doué. The Parisian club, which secured its first European star in 2025, was recognized as the best team of the year after their historic sextuple (Ligue 1, Champions League, French Cup, Champions Trophy, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup). FC Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal, the revelation of the year in 2025, also won an award honoring the best young global athlete.
