Record breaker: Marie Rougetet shines in national hammer throw competition
It may only be April, but Mississippi State’s Marie Rougetet has made a huge impact with her hammer throw performance. At a national competition, the young athlete, who was a medalist at the 2025 French Elite Championships, set a new university record with a throw of 69.79 meters. Not only did she break the university record, but she also improved her personal best by over two meters and achieved the best performance by a U23 European athlete!
Five throws over 66 meters
During the American competition, Rougetet threw over 66 meters five out of six times, with her first attempt measuring 67.78 meters and surpassing 69 meters on her third attempt. Prior to this, her best throw was 67.38 meters, achieved at the Junior European Championships in Tampere, Finland, in August 2025. This throw close to the 70-meter mark now places her second on the French rankings (behind Rose Loga, 73.81 meters) and ahead of another promising prospect, Florella Freyche (Entente Sud lyonnais, 69.08 meters).
