As reported by Tuttosport, Genoa could be preparing for an emotional return: that of Stephan El Shaarawy, also known as “Il Faraone”, who was formed at the club but never truly established in the first team. After several years elsewhere, and with his contract with AS Roma expiring on June 30 without an extension in sight, a return to Genoa CFC is becoming increasingly likely.
Last winter, an attempt to bring him back was considered but rejected by Gian Piero Gasperini. This time, the Ligurian club seems determined to take action, with the desire to offer Daniele De Rossi a player he knows well and appreciates. The two men have indeed shared the field in the national team and at Roma, which could facilitate negotiations.
From the player’s side, there is also openness, even though salary remains a sensitive point. El Shaarawy currently earns around 2.5 million euros net per year, a sum too high for Genoa’s finances, which would consider an offer for two years, possibly with an option for a third season, but with a reduced salary.
This return would have a deeply romantic dimension. Trained at the club, El Shaarawy shone in the youth teams, notably winning the Primavera championship, but never managed to establish himself in the first team. Since then, his career has taken him to Milan, China, and then Roma, without ever breaking the emotional bond with Genoa, which he considers one of his two heart clubs along with Roma.
Today, the conditions seem to be in place to mend this unfinished story. The player himself has always expressed his desire to finish his career in Italy. For Genoa supporters, this potential return would be an opportunity to rediscover a talented and appreciated player, capable of integrating perfectly into De Rossi’s project. A story of loyalty, reunions, and perhaps rebirth.
