On Wednesday, April 15, the White House announced that a second round of negotiations with Iran is under consideration. Meanwhile, Pakistan continues to act as a mediator as the ceasefire expires in a week.
A second round of talks with Iran is being discussed, the White House indicated during a press conference on Wednesday, April 15. “These exchanges are taking place, but nothing is official until you hear it from the White House. But we are optimistic about the prospect of an agreement. We continue to monitor how these exchanges develop,” said Karoline Leavitt, White House spokesperson. These negotiations “would most likely take place in the same location as last time,” in Islamabad, Pakistan, she added.
Meanwhile, Iran assures that the dialogue is ongoing. “The exchange of messages continues. Since Sunday, when the Iranian delegation returned to Tehran, several messages have been transmitted via Pakistan. Our positions have been outlined in these exchanges and recent communications,” said Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Between Washington and Tehran, diplomacy is not broken despite the failure of talks last weekend. As the ceasefire expires in a week, Pakistan continues to act as a mediator. A delegation from Islamabad was received in Iran on Wednesday to facilitate negotiations. Meanwhile, China, an ally of Iran, has expressed readiness to play a constructive role in peace in the Middle East.
