War in the Middle East: Fuel prices have dropped by 1 cent in average in France since the ceasefire.

From fragile ceasefire to fuel prices in France

Since the fragile ceasefire in Iran, the pump price has only slightly decreased in France.

According to forecasts, the ceasefire between the United States and Iran was supposed to decrease fuel prices by 5 to 10 cents in France. However, they have only dropped on average by 1 cent, as per government figures analyzed on Monday by AFP. Currently, SP95-E10 gasoline is selling on average at 2.001 euros per liter at the start of the week, based on prices from 7,037 stations at 11 a.m. SP98 is on average 2.098 euros per liter (at 7,349 stations) and diesel, the most consumed fuel in France, is selling at 2.330 euros per liter (at 8,810 stations).

On April 7, the day before the conclusion of a ceasefire between the United States and Iran after over a month of war, these fuels were being sold at 2.018 euros, 2.114 euros, and 2.337 euros per liter, respectively. The decrease ranges between 0.7 cents (for diesel) and 1.7 cents (for SP95-E10) since that date.

Initial Effects of Ceasefire

The ceasefire initially led to a drop in oil barrel prices. The anticipated consequence, for motorists, was a significant decrease in pump prices. “If the oil price stabilizes at around 92 to 95 dollars per barrel, this means that very quickly we will see prices at the pump in France drop by 5 to 10 cents,” stated Olivier Gantois, president of the French Union of Petroleum Industries (Ufip), to AFP after the ceasefire was reached.
