“The restrictions imposed by criminal America on maritime navigation and transit in international waters are illegal,” the Iranian army estimated on Monday, a few hours before the scheduled entry into force of the American naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

The Iranian army stated on Monday, April 13, that the American naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which is set to begin later in the day, is “illegal” and constitutes an act of piracy, also warning that no Gulf port will be safe if theirs are threatened.

“The restrictions imposed by criminal America on maritime navigation and transit in international waters are illegal and constitute an example of piracy,” declared the command of the Iranian armed forces Khatam Al-Anbiya in a statement broadcast on state television.

“No port (…) will be safe”

“If the security of the ports of the Islamic Republic in the waters of the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea is threatened, no port in the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea will be safe,” it added.

The American army announced on Sunday that it would impose a blockade starting from Monday at 4 p.m. French time, on “vessels of all nationalities entering or exiting Iranian ports and coastal areas,” due to the lack of an agreement to end the conflict.

However, it clarified that it would allow the movement of ships not heading to or from Iran through the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic passage for global trade and oil supply, according to a statement from the American military command for the Middle East, Centcom.
