Participants in the Coachella 2026 festival were not only moved by the crazy music lineup, Justin Bieber’s return to the stage after several years, or the high prices for chicken sandwiches ($30), pizza slices ($20), or beer ($15).
They were also (and mostly) shaken by the extraordinary weather conditions that heavily disrupted one of the most famous festivals on the planet throughout the weekend.
The problems started on Friday when the windy conditions (not uncommon during the event) led to the cancellation of the highly anticipated DJ EDM Anyma’s concert just before midnight on the main stage.
“Due to strong winds that disrupted Anyma’s stage setup, he will not be able to perform. Coachella and Anyma made this decision together, with your safety being the priority,” the organizers said in a message shortly after midnight on Saturday morning.
The wind also caused chaos in the camping area, overturning tents and awnings.
After a calm Saturday that allowed Justin Bieber, the Strokes, David Byrne, Interpol, Addison Rae, and Nine Inch Noize to perform without any trouble, a super exclusive camp was turned upside down by the gusts on Sunday.
Known for its upscale “adult summer camp” atmosphere – including a pool, VIP bars, shops, reformer Pilates classes, and makeup workshops – Camp Poosh hosts celebrities like Kourtney Kardashian, Kim’s sister.
In a viral TikTok video, a participant showed the luxurious wellness center devastated by the winds, which tore down the tents, swept away the decorations, and turned this meticulously landscaped oasis into a dusty desert.
However, it was proof that even though you can afford a ticket to Coachella, splurge on glitter, cash, and Chanel boots, you still need to have a sense of humor. Some influencers took their misfortunes in stride and joked about them. “In case you have FOMO,” content creator Laura Lee posted on her social networks.
Well! It wasn’t just a few grains of sand in the eyes and overturned tents that made us feel sorry for the festival participants who come every year to see the cream of the pop and celebrity crop.
Especially since these weather conditions were nothing compared to the much more tumultuous ones faced by Burning Man festival-goers in 2023, which trapped tens of thousands of people in the mud and resulted in a death.
