The United Kingdom toughens stance against Donald Trump. Health Minister Wes Streeting denounces his “inflammatory” remarks and calls for accountability ahead of new peace negotiations next week.
After refusing to join the conflict against Iran despite pressure from the United States, the British government is highly critical of Donald Trump. British Health Minister Wes Streeting denounced Trump’s handling of the Middle East war on Sunday, April 12. “President Trump made bold, inflammatory, provocative, and scandalous remarks on social media over the past week,” said the British minister in an interview with Sky News, as reported by Le Parisien.
“I think we all understand that President Trump should be judged by his actions, not his words,” added Wes Streeting. He emphasized the need to differentiate between shocking statements and reality. Trump had threatened to annihilate Iran’s “entire civilization” in a message on his social media platform if Iran rejected the proposed agreement on April 7. Streeting pointed out the extraordinary nature of such threats being posted on social media.
The United Kingdom to host new negotiations
The initial talks for a lasting peace between Iran and the United States under Pakistan’s guidance ended in failure. The UK will host new discussions next week on reopening navigation routes in the Strait of Hormuz. Streeting expressed disappointment in the lack of progress in negotiations or a sustainable end to the war in Iran. He emphasized the importance of persisting in diplomatic efforts even if previous discussions did not yield results.
