The Mississippi Museum of Natural Science (MMNS) recently held its annual NatureFEST in Jackson, Miss. Community members had the opportunity to learn about the research conducted by scientists in labs, including behind-the-scenes tours of the museum’s facilities for conservation efforts.

TJ Drummond, Visitor Services manager for MMNS, mentioned that the event allowed the public to see areas not normally accessible, such as the animal room and research wing.

Various organizations and vendors, like the Hattiesburg Zoo, were present to showcase live animals and educate attendees. Nichole Smith, Special Events coordinator for MMNS, highlighted the importance of providing people with opportunities to immerse themselves in nature through activities like trail walks and art projects.

Around 1,000 people attended the event, which served as a celebration of the museum’s conservation initiatives and its connection with the residents of Mississippi.
