Two American ships crossed the Strait of Hormuz, according to the Pentagon, a claim disputed by Iran. The United States says it wants to secure the area and prepare for demining. These tensions come amid negotiations between the two countries.

Two ships of the US Navy crossed the Strait of Hormuz today, according to information from Axios, later confirmed by the Pentagon. A senior Iranian military official, quoted by state television, denied this information. The US Navy has begun to “set the conditions” for demining, as reported by Le Parisien. However, the Fars news agency stated that “the United States is formulating excessive demands regarding the strait” and “unacceptable demands on several other issues.”

This American operation aims to give confidence to commercial ships to undertake the passage of the strait in turn, Axios reported. The ships operated as part of “a broader mission to ensure that the strait is completely cleared of underwater mines previously laid by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards,” explained Centcom in a statement on X (formerly Twitter).

Negotiations are underway between the United States and Iran, under the auspices of Pakistan, on Saturday, April 11, in Islamabad (Pakistan) to turn the ceasefire into lasting peace. In the afternoon, Donald Trump stated on his Truth Social network that the United States had started “the process of securing the Strait of Hormuz,” after over a month of blockage. The US president once again criticized countries that he believes are not doing enough to secure the zone blocked by Iran, through which a fifth of the world’s oil usually transits.

“We are now beginning the process to secure the Strait of Hormuz for the benefit of all countries around the world, including China, Japan, South Korea, France, Germany, and many others,” wrote Donald Trump on Truth Social. “Incredible fact: they do not have the courage or the will to do the job themselves,” he added. “And in the meantime, tankers from all over the world are heading to the United States to load oil,” Donald Trump rejoiced.
