As a scientist, Valérie Van Grootel is therefore divided in the face of this return to the Moon. She remains an “enthusiast of space”, there is always an “emotion behind this kind of photos, behind this kind of exploits”. She delights in what humanity is capable of achieving. But she remains realistic about the true objectives of this type of missions.

And she retains a lesson: “The very beautiful photos of Artemis where we really see the Earth as a small blue marble in space, and even what science and astronomy tell us in general is that Earth is essential to humanity and that we have no planet B, that we cannot imagine a human civilization in space. The most important issue, ultimately, that we may overlook a little with this race to the Moon, is that our Earth, we must keep it habitable because there is no replacement planet at the moment.”
