Just like last year, PSG once again exits the Champions League in the round of 16. There was no miracle on Thursday night for the Parisians, who were overwhelmed last week in Veszprem and were unable to turn things around in this return match that ended in a draw (35-35).

History repeats itself for Paris. After the monumental defeat (32-24) suffered last week in Veszprem, the Parisians had hoped that a miracle was possible to continue in the Champions League despite this latest setback.

Deep down, the players from the capital knew the task was too great, and once again, the quarter-finals would take place without them. Especially against the formidable Hungarian team and their sharpshooters, most of whom are French. Unfortunately, these legitimate fears were not unfounded.

Just like last year after the immense disappointment against Szeged, another Hungarian team, these Parisians who have dominated the French championship for eleven years but struggle at the European level, exit the competition in the round of 16.

Remili and Corrales show no mercy against their former club

Unlike the first leg, PSG did not deserve to lose on Thursday in the reunion between the two teams.

Despite a very poor start once again (4-1 for Veszprem) and a significant dry spell (7 goals to 1 for the visitors), later in the match, when Elohim Prandi and his team, taking advantage of a Hungarian dip in form, had a four-goal lead, Paris did not back down against a ruthless Nedim Remili facing his former club and a heroic Rodrigo Corrales, with 13 saves, showing no mercy to his former colors after three seasons.

However, they did not exact revenge, as the match ended in a draw (35-35). Most importantly, Stefan Madsen’s team, off to a rough start, never seemed capable of achieving the comeback that seemed impossible on paper. Unfortunately, it was the same in reality.
