An eleventh-hour agreement
Just over an hour before his ultimatum was set to expire, Donald Trump agreed to postpone his threat of intervention against Iran. The American president has expressed openness to a ceasefire, on the condition that Tehran fully reopens the strategic Strait of Hormuz. On the Iranian side, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghtchi confirmed that Iran would accept this condition if American-Israeli attacks ceased.
Discussions planned in Pakistan
The United States is now considering direct dialogue with Iran. The White House has mentioned the possibility of “in-person” talks, while negotiations are scheduled to take place in Islamabad, Pakistan starting Friday. Tehran has agreed to this negotiation framework for a two-week period, clarifying that it does not signify the end of the conflict.
A limited and conditional truce
The ceasefire remains partial. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that this pause does not include Lebanon, while expressing Israel’s support for the American decision.

Washington claims a “total victory”
For Donald Trump, this agreement represents a “total and complete victory” for the United States. The American president asserts that the sensitive issue of the Iranian nuclear program will be “perfectly resolved.” However, he remains vague about the next steps in case the negotiations fail, leaving uncertainty about a possible return to military threats.
