Professor Frederick Gagnon from the Department of Political Science, holder of the Raoul-Dandurand Chair in Strategic and Diplomatic Studies, will receive the Merit Award in the Outreach category on April 29th.

A political analyst present in major media outlets, a prolific author, and a sought-after speaker, Frederick Gagnon is known for his remarkable ability to popularize geopolitical issues and foster dialogue between academia and civil society. The reports produced by the Observatoire sur les États-Unis and the Observatoire des conflits multidimensionnels, which he leads, are widely covered by the media and consulted by government, diplomatic, and economic actors. The Electoral Guides he coordinates during US presidential elections are reference tools cited in the media and used by many teachers and journalists. His impact extends beyond the academic community.

His role as a catalyst for research and knowledge dissemination directly contributes to positioning UQAM as a leading university in the analysis of international issues, confirming the institution’s relevance in societal debates and decision-making circles.

His influence also extends to involvement in national and international networks, including as a Global Fellow at the Wilson Center in Washington and an associate member of the Institute of International and Strategic Relations in Paris.

Frederick Gagnon also leads research projects that engage young researchers, helping to cultivate a committed and visible upcoming generation in the public sphere. He also participates in numerous conferences at colleges, high schools, and public libraries, showcasing his ability to adapt his discourse to diverse audiences, promote critical thinking, and engage citizens in contemporary challenges, making him an ideal ambassador of UQAM’s values: accessibility, rigor, openness, and social commitment.

The Merit Awards ceremony will take place on April 29th at the CNM x Adisq Space on Saint-Denis Street, in the presence of the laureates and their loved ones.
