The University of Idaho’s College of Agricultural and Life Sciences will be unveiling its new Meat Science and Innovation Center Honoring Ron Richard. The grand opening will take place on Friday, April 10th from 10 a.m. to noon at 775 Perimeter Drive in Moscow. The new 12,750 square foot center aims to enhance class sizes, training opportunities, research opportunities, and production capacity. It will also provide small-scale northern Idaho ranchers with a place to process their beef and train workers for meat processing facilities across the state.
This new center replaces the old building from the 1960s and includes dedicated spaces to improve operational efficiency. Ron Richard, who worked as a manager for Vandal Brand Meats, has been honored for his contributions in shaping the brand’s reputation. The Vandal Brand Meats program generates $325,000 in annual sales. According to a press release, the meat science program at U of I boasts a 100% job replacement rate for graduates within the meat sector and related industries.
