A 39-year-old man was killed and his brother seriously injured on Monday in Argenteuil, in the Val-d’Oise region, after being shot during a brawl, a police source told AFP, adding that the shooter is currently on the run.
Police received several calls from local residents around 1:15 pm on Monday reporting an altercation involving three people in Argenteuil, between a man and two brothers.
According to witnesses, two men initially fought for unknown reasons before a third individual came to help his brother, wielding an expandable baton.
Surveillance cameras show that the two brothers managed to chase away the third man, but he returned and shot at them with a handgun taken from a car trunk, before fleeing the scene.

Upon the arrival of emergency services, the two brothers were found on the ground with gunshot wounds. One was shot in the abdomen and hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, while the other, hit in the shoulder, went into cardiac arrest and passed away despite rescue efforts.
The vehicle used by the shooter was found abandoned. Investigators seized an expandable baton and several cartridge cases at the scene.
The two brothers were known to the police, particularly for drug-related offenses. The 51-year-old shooter also had a criminal record.
An investigation has been opened for murder, attempted murder, and possession of Category B weapons (handguns), and has been entrusted to the Anti-Organized Crime Division of the Val-d’Oise region.
