The San Antonio Spurs are in the midst of a resurgent season behind MVP-candidate Victory Wembanyama, but the center had an injury scare to begin the final week of the season.

In a game against the Philadelphia 76ers, Wembanyama couldn’t finish the game after appearing to suffer an injury. Not only are the Spurs still fighting for the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference playoffs, but Wembanyama has not yet surpassed the 65-game threshold required to be eligible for postseason awards.

The Spurs are safely in the playoff picture and will have around a week off after the regular season ends on Sunday. Therefore, Wembanyama’s status for the next few games is worth monitoring as San Antonio doesn’t want to risk his playoff availability.

Here’s the latest on Wembanyama’s status.

Victor Wembanyama injury update

Wembanyama left Monday night’s game against the Sixers in the first half after colliding with Paul George. After briefly returning to action to close the half, he left and didn’t return for the rest of the game.

San Antonio diagnosed Wembanyama with a left rib contusion, but head coach Mitch Johnson didn’t have much more information beyond that.

“I know he came back and he just didn’t finish,” Mitch Johnson said, via ESPN. “At halftime, I was told he wasn’t coming back. I haven’t heard anything else up to this point. I think it would be a positive that he felt like he could come back, and he played the last four or five minutes of the half. So, that’s a positive from my perspective.”
