On Monday, April 6, tensions escalated between the American head of state and Iranian officials. As Donald Trump’s ultimatum expires on the evening of Tuesday, April 7, he has already threatened Iran. These statements have been described by the Iranian spokesperson as “blatant and arrogant rhetoric.”

With the conflict in the Middle East now lasting for 39 days, and the American-Israeli bombings leading to the death of the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, tensions continue to rise between Donald Trump and the Iranian officials.

On Sunday, April 5, on his Truth Social network, the American head of state berated Iranian officials, saying, “Open that damn strait, you bunch of crazy fools, or you’ll go to hell.” On Monday, April 6, the American president held a press conference where he declared that Iran “could be completely destroyed in a single night, and that night could very well be tomorrow.”

These threats, linked to the ultimatum issued to the Iranian government to reach a ceasefire agreement by Tuesday, April 7, did not go unanswered. As reported by BFMTV, citing Iranian state television, the spokesperson for Khatam Al-Anbiya, the command of the Iranian armed forces, stated, “The blatant and arrogant rhetoric, as well as the baseless threats of the American president, who is in a deadlock and justifies the successive defeats of the American army, have no effect on the continuation of the offensive and overwhelming operations.”

For context, Donald Trump has specifically threatened to target bridges and power plants in Iran if the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic passage for global trade through which 20% of the world’s oil consumption transits, is not unblocked. As of Monday, April 6, new Israeli-American bombings on Iranian power installations have been reported. When questioned about this, Donald Trump assured that he was not concerned about the risk of committing war crimes.
