The Lebanese army stated on Monday that no new tenant resided in the building targeted by a deadly Israeli attack in Ain Saade, east of Beirut.
Media and political officials had claimed that the attack had targeted a Hezbollah official who had recently moved into the building.
“An apartment in the Ain Saade neighborhood in Metn was the target of a hostile Israeli attack in which two GBU-39 type bombs, launched from an aircraft or warship, were dropped, as part of the large-scale offensive against Lebanon,” the army said in a statement.
“A specialized unit of the army went to the scene of the attack and conducted an on-site inspection to gather evidence. It was found that the two bombs had passed through the roof of the building and the fourth floor before exploding on the third floor, which was the target of the attack, causing the death of three citizens residing on the same floor and injuring others,” the statement added.
According to the army, “preliminary investigations also revealed that there were no new tenants in the building. While it was found that a person was seen leaving the scene on a motorcycle immediately after the attack, the investigation continues to establish their identity and clarify other details.”
