War in the Middle East: Donald Trump delays his ultimatum but still promises hell to Iran

The American president is sending mixed signals to Iran, which seems to be ignoring his threats. The missing pilot has been rescued, a special operation around which the two countries are engaging in a war of narratives.

After six weeks of war, Donald Trump continued to send mixed signals to Iran throughout Sunday. After estimating to Fox News that there are “good chances” of reaching an agreement on Monday, he then promised two hours later to “blow everything up down there.” On his social network Truth Social, he later postponed his ultimatum by 24 hours, now set for “Tuesday, 8 p.m. Eastern Time,” while telling the Wall Street Journal that “if they do nothing, they will have no power plant and no bridge will stand.”

“The region will burn”

These reversals do not seem to shake Iran. The powerful Speaker of the Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, warned the American president that the entire region would “burn” because of his actions. “Your reckless actions are leading the United States into a real hell for every family, and our entire region will burn because you insist on following Netanyahu’s orders,” he wrote to him. Several oil installations in Kuwait have also been targeted by Iranian drone attacks, causing significant damage.

The impressive special forces operation

This day was also marked by the rescue of the American pilot, whose F-15E fighter-bomber was shot down over Iran on Friday and had been hiding in a crevice since. Donald Trump praised this exfiltration as “one of the most audacious operations in U.S. history,” which mobilized special forces and “dozens of aircraft.” Iran claims the destruction of four of these aircraft, which Washington says were destroyed to prevent them from falling into Iranian hands. A war is also being fought over the narrative.
