The attack took place early on Sunday, April 5, in the eastern part of the city of Gaza. Four Palestinians were killed in an Israeli airstrike, as reported by the civil defense, an emergency response agency operating under the authority of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas. “Four martyrs and five injured arrived at the hospital after an Israeli drone fired two projectiles at a group of civilians,” also reported Al-Chifa Hospital, the main hospital in the Palestinian territory.
The Israeli army stated in a release that they had identified a “terrorist cell” posing an “immediate threat” and carried out “a targeted strike (…) to eliminate the threat” within a territory devastated by over two years of warfare.
Since the fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas came into effect, both sides have accused each other of violations. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in the controlled enclave, nearly 715 Palestinians have been killed, a figure considered reliable by the UN. The Israeli army has reported five soldiers killed since the same date.
