The end of an era for former Brazilian international Oscar. The offensive midfielder, who played for Sao Paulo, announced his retirement this Saturday through a message posted by his former club. At 34 years old, the former Chelsea player is ending his career after a medical episode during exams at the end of last year, during which he suffered a vasovagal syncope. The Brazilian will no longer be seen on the field.
“I am ending here in Sao Paulo a career that has passed through many places, practically the entire world. Returning here in Cotia, where everything began, I am happy,” he said, visibly moved, referring to his return to the club’s training center.
A legendary player! Present with the Selecao during the 2014 World Cup in his country, Oscar explained the reasons for his decision: “It’s difficult, because I wanted to do more for Sao Paulo, I wanted to play more, I had football and age on my side, I could play more, but unfortunately, this happened. Now, I will retire and continue to support. Continue my life as a fan. My heart stopped for two minutes, two and a half, it was a scare. Today, I am ready to talk about it. My blood pressure dropped, then they performed CPR.”
Having played in Europe and China, Oscar will be remembered, especially for his journey with the Brazilian national team and his time in the Premier League with Chelsea.
