The Pixar film “Jumpers” is a success, but it may soon be overshadowed by a small rodent and its feathered companion. Netflix has just released the trailer for “Swapped,” its new animated film that combines elements of “Freaky Friday” and “The Iron Giant.” Michael B. Jordan, who lends his voice to the main character, presents this Skydance production, which will be available on May 1st on the streaming giant’s platform.

The story revolves around a small furry creature who finds itself trapped in the body of a bird against its will. The two animals stumble upon a mystical plant and must now work together if they want to regain their original forms. However, it’s not easy when everything seems to make these animals dislike each other. Nevertheless, they embark on the greatest adventure of their lives.

“Swapped” is the result of a significant acquisition for Skydance Media. In February 2018, the studio signed a multi-year deal with Nathan Greno. The director of “Tangled” reunited with John Lasseter, the former head of creative at Pixar and Walt Disney Studio. Tim Mertens, the editor of “Wreck-It Ralph,” also joined the project. Fans of animated films are eagerly anticipating the contribution of these former Disney employees, especially considering Netflix’s hit-or-miss track record in the animation field.

Netflix has established partnerships with various animation studios, with one of the most successful being the deal with Sony, which produced “The Mitchells vs. The Machines” and “KPop Demon Hunters.” On the other hand, “Elliot and the Enchantment” by Dreamworks was released with little fanfare. This was also the case for “In Your Dreams,” which was aired shortly before the holidays in 2025. “Swapped” hopes to leverage the reputation of Nathan Greno and Michael B. Jordan to create a buzz.

Find out on May 1st on Netflix if this competitor to “Jumpers” will make waves and make it to the top of the platform’s charts.
