Abbott and Cham.Care: Proactive Health in the Digital Age
Freestyle Libre provides real-time glucose data, helping diabetic individuals make informed decisions.
The trend towards proactive healthcare in the digital age is evident as digital technologies, wearable medical devices, and health data gradually transform how health is monitored and managed. Today, technology allows users to track their health indicators in real-time, enabling a better understanding of their bodies and proactively adapting their lifestyle. This trend is leading to the emergence of personalized healthcare models, where data forms the basis for decisions regarding nutrition, physical activity, and disease prevention.
At the beginning of 2026, during CES 2026 in Las Vegas, United States, Abbott introduced Libre Assist, a new integrated feature in the FreeStyle Libre app, a continuous glucose monitoring system. This feature uses artificial intelligence to predict the impact of meals on blood sugar before eating and suggests adjustments to reduce the risk of hyperglycemia.
Additionally, the FreeStyle Libre system uses a compact sensor worn on the arm for up to 14 days, providing real-time glucose data, helping users monitor their glucose trends and adjust their diet, exercise, and daily activities.
The FreeStyle Libre is currently used by over 7 million people in more than 60 countries and has been available in Vietnam since 2021. It contributes to the development of self-monitoring of glucose, promotes personalized care, and enhances the active role of patients. Approximately 7 million Vietnamese people live with diabetes, and over half have experienced complications. The Ministry of Health recommends the use of continuous glucose monitoring systems for individuals requiring close monitoring and hospitalized patients needing real-time accurate data.
Bringing cutting-edge healthcare technologies to Vietnam
Abbott has gradually introduced a wide range of healthcare solutions and technologies in Vietnam, from nutrition and pharmaceutical products to medical devices and diagnostics. The company also closely collaborates with local health agencies and institutions to address increasing healthcare challenges.
In cardiology, Abbott has introduced advanced solutions in Vietnam, along with professional training and technology transfers, expanding treatment options and enhancing the capabilities of healthcare institutions. For example, the HeartMate 3 left ventricular assist device used in severe heart failure treatment was successfully implanted in a patient at Military Central Hospital 108, offering new therapeutic options for complex cases of heart failure. Abbott and Military Central Hospital 108 also collaborate on professional training in cardiovascular disease screening and treatment, while supporting the transfer and application of new clinical techniques.
Various other cardiovascular technologies, such as the MitraClip for minimally invasive mitral valve repair and the Amplatzer Piccolo Occluder for treating persistent arterial duct in premature and newborn infants, have also been introduced in Vietnam.
Abbott continues to deploy advanced diagnostic solutions in Vietnam, reflecting the trend towards automation and process optimization to improve operational efficiency and patient care quality. For example, the fully automated GLP (Good Laboratory Practices) system implemented at the Blood Transfusion and Hematology Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City enables multi-platform connectivity and fully automates the testing process, from serology and blood grouping to NAT (Asperger Tests), contributing to improved operational efficiency and enhanced patient care quality. This is also the first GLP system installed in the blood banking sector in the Asia-Pacific region.
Abbott is actively implementing community healthcare initiatives with its strategic partners. For instance, the “Healthcare for the Elderly – Towards a Healthier Vietnam 2026” initiative, launched in January by Abbott in collaboration with the Vietnam Young Doctors Association.
Ms. Dinh Hong Ngoc, Director of Communications and External Affairs at Abbott Vietnam, emphasized the importance of a proactive approach to healthcare in helping the elderly live healthier and more fulfilling lives: “Health is not just about preventing disease but should be established from a young age through appropriate nutrition, physical activity, and everyone’s involvement.” She reasserted Abbott’s commitment to a long-term partnership with Vietnam for the health of its population, especially the elderly.
In the context of Vietnam’s goal to increase life expectancy and promote innovation in the healthcare sector according to Resolution 72-NQ/TW of 2025, access to new healthcare technologies and their application is expected to continue to support the healthcare system in improving treatment efficiency and the quality of life for the population.
